VNG BIS conference moved to 29 September; with attention for the Wabo |

In April and May we announced the symposium on Audiovisual Possibilities for Improved Communication within Councils. This gathering, which was scheduled for 2 June, has been postponed to 29 September 2010. Many of those interested (and several participants) have indicated to us that they are unable to come to The Hague due to election preparations on 9 June. That is why BIS and VNG have decided to look for an alternative date. The date is now 29 September.
During the conference, taking place from 10am – 3.30pm in the VNG office on the Nassaulaan 12 in The Hague, the VNG will present its vision on the application of audiovisual tools. In addition, attention is given to the possibilities and benefits of interactive meeting, the distribution of (council) meetings via internet, digital information distribution, queue management and video communication. Finally, a guided tour will be given of the beautiful VNG building and a few demonstrations will be held;
including demonstrations with the PresenTable. This interactive touch display, which can also be used as interactive drawing table, offers possibilities to effectively streamline the execution of the Wabo. A simple “touch of a finger” on the screen surface is already sufficient to digitally process large format (building)drawings and applications and to add the necessary comments.

Samsung Electronics has officially appointed BIS an authorised Samsung Service Partner. This means the Large Format Displays by this globally renowned manufacturer may be maintained and repaired by BIS under the manufacturer’s warranty. This is associated with large benefits for our clients. After all, this enables us to provide a better and faster service to our clients.
For years, BIS has been performing maintenance services and repairs of the audiovisual products of renowned manufacturers such as Hitachi and Toshiba in the BIS repair centre. Now Samsung is being added to the list. The big advantage of our own repair centre is that you have your equipment back at your disposal faster; should it require repair or maintenance. BIS improves service provision on the basis of client evaluations in spite of high rating |

Our clients... the reason we exist. That is why we greatly value high client satisfaction and we do a lot – if not everything—to further optimise client satisfaction. Because, while BIS has received a high score from its clients, it could be better. And so it should be better.
After each installation project is complete, BIS asks the client to evaluate the project by completing an online questionnaire. Many respondents took the effort of completing this evaluation in 2009. This trend continued in the first quarter of 2010. All involved clients that gave us information to further improve our service provision. Something we approached seriously and will continue to do.
On average, the BIS service provision received a score of 4.09 on a 5 point Likert scale in the first three months of 2010. A good score that we can be proud of as an integrator of high quality systems. Particularly the technical installation and completion, on average, score highly. This does not mean there are no points of improvement. It has become clear that our communication in relation to projects requires improvement and that also our internal communication about client requirements regarding our services is not always optimal.
On the basis of client evaluations we have created a communication diagram that provides the client with precise insight, in advance, in the project trajectory and the associated communication moments. In addition, we have purchased a market leading software package to better communicate, administrate, monitor and follow the requirements of our clients internally in the area of services, repair and maintenance.
In short: we greatly value your opinions, learn from them and use them to improve our service to you. We believe that you need to notice the difference, so that you also benefit from the feedback provided.

How environmentally friendly are you? A movement sensor in every room! |

The idea behind the divisional structure at BIS is that we can be of maximal service to our clients through bundling of our knowledge and skills. In doing so, we naturally and continuously strive for “cross-pollination” between our divisions, so that the client only has one address for all their requirements in the area of room furnishing and audiovisual solutions and all worries are taken out of their hands. That this approach works is also proven by the Tyco case.
All the staff members of the Dutch branch Tyco Electronics came together in Den Bosch with their family members for a day for young and old. Tyco realised that the right technique is an important condition for success these days. That is why Tyco relied on BIS Event Rental; specialist for the optimal application of projection, (touch) LCD screens, lighting, sound amplification, camera registration; amongst other things, extended with webcasting, catering, podium construction and decoration.
But the initiators at Tyco also realised that the content would equally determine the intended success. For this reason, the specialists at BIS Digital Productions were engaged. They devised and developed a hologram projection of a ‘professor', who literally and figuratively showed what the technique can and cannot do. The professor makes a trip through the internet and discovers that ICT offers endless possibilities. When the ‘real professor’ comes onto the podium, he is so enthusiastic that he begins to dance and ‘battle’ with his holographic image. The visitors therefore saw two identical professors dance on the podium: one was a hologram projection and the other a real person. The performance was supported by audio and brilliant laser beams.
The response was overwhelming. It was a great example of the success brought about by the right combination of technology and content. That is why an increasing number of clients ask us to take care of both the technology and the presentation. This varies from a standard template in the company style to hologram projections and presentations fully taken care of with flash and video elements.

Visited for you: Infocomm 2010, the largest audiovisual professional exhibition in the world |

InfoComm, the world’s largest professional exhibition, opened its doors from 9 to 11 June to the audiovisual sector. In Las Vegas, approximately 32,000 professionals visited the exhibition to familiarise themselves with the latest products and audiovisual trends, learn about the latest techniques and come into contact with renowned suppliers. Infocomm 2010 was one of the most visited AV exhibitions of the last few years.
More than 925 stand owners ensured there was a highly varied and complete range of large format professional displays, LCD walls, data/video projectors, audio, video conferencing, internet streaming, as well as complete communication systems. A delegation from BIS was present in Las Vegas to determine the latest developments and trends in this dynamic sector.
The strong emergence of 3D technology, both for projectors and LCD screens, was one of the most interesting developments. While it is still difficult to judge what role this new technology will play in the commercial markets, we expect that 3D technology will increase sharply in the entertainment world and in education applications.
Another trend is the shift to (very) high resolutions (full HD and WUXGA) and digital signal transfer. High quality switching, interfacing, cabling using copper, but also increasing amount of CAT and glass fibre cabling... it is hard to imagine a world without digital media. AMX, Crestron and Extron displayed various switchers and interfaces that meet this trend. In addition, streaming video, video over IP, archiving, live broadcast and video-on-demand were also popular themes. While it was mainly about hardware solutions in the recent past, this time digital software was the dominant tone.
Ultra-short-throw projectors could be seen across the entire exhibition in combination with interactive whiteboards for various meeting and educational applications. In this, it was good to see that our strategic partner Hitachi, the pioneer of the UST projectors, is still the leader. The ability to act and the possibilities offered by one of our other partners, Christie, was also very noticeable. Christie was seen as the eye-catcher of Infocomm and received much attention with its numerous product introductions.
Large format screens and LCD walls are now more the rule than the exception; the bezels are becoming increasingly thinner and the corresponding technology better. With the result that the display of images can be called sublime. And touch technology? This is also a clear trend and will be increasingly integrated in applications and products. There was a lot of attention for the 650TS; the interactive large format LCD screen by Samsung. The consecutive demonstrations drew a lot of attention and one of the Samsung staff members was even able to tell us that an amazing 21 pieces of the 650TS had been sold in the Netherlands by one client... by the company BIS.
It was an enormous stimulant for us to see that the manufacturers Samsung, Christie, projectiondesign, AMX, Crestron, Extron, Polycom and Tandberg played the lead role at this exhibition. That these are precisely the strategic partners of BIS is confirmation for us that we are sailing the right course and can continue to serve our clients in an optimal manner in the future.

High level meeting for guests of Hotel Casa 400. Thanks to BIS! |

When Hotel Casa 400 decided to furnish a multifunctional meeting centre, BIS furnished the thirteen meeting rooms with the latest presentation and meeting solutions. Four large rooms can be connected together so that a simple high quality meeting setting for small to very large groups can be realised. All large rooms are equipped with 16:10 Hitachi large screen projection. An extra projector with screen is mounted in two rooms to utilise the width of the room when rooms are combined.
Furthermore, BIS has realised a versatile audio system with front and ceiling speakers; including wireless microphones and mobile forum microphones. All equipment is operated with a Crestron touch panel built into the wall, which is programmed in such a manner that the system knows which projector needs to be used when rooms are combined. The Marantz recorders, which are controlled by reception, make it possible to digitally record and index meetings.
To display interactive presentations, multiple rooms are equipped with an interactive SMART board in combination with a Hitachi Ultra-Short-Throw projector. In addition, BIS has two mobile pieces of furniture with a 52 inch LCD screen for use in the remaining rooms. A BIS ID Digital Signage system for centrally operated information distribution completes the solution. Using the five 40 inch monitors, placed at strategic positions, announcements are disseminated and information is shared; on the small screens, mounted at every room, the visitors and logo of the client hiring the room can be displayed.
